Checking In With the Register Flyer Program

It's been six years since 9/11 changed the way we travel. While airport security became the responsibility of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the private sector is being tapped to find a commercially viable solution to speed passengers through security. It's known as the registered traveler program and MSNBC checks in to see where things stand: Speeding up security checks comes slowly.

Are you a registered traveler or would you be interested in the program? What are your thoughts about the registered travel program?

I just joined and went thru the passport review, the fingerprinting and the iris scan. This all happened quickly for me. The gentleman before me couldn't get his eyes to scan, so it took him about 20 min to register. Jacksonville Florida is my home city, and I certainly will be glad to shorten my security line, especially on Monday mornings. I wish there were a lot more airports signed up though. It would have made spending the $129 a lot easier.

Internal passports and travel registration is something communist countries and Nazi Germany did. No amount of terrorism justifies turning our great nation into one that emulates those systems.

I have a Clear membership - my home airport is Orlando. Not only are you pre-screened, but you have a special line that allows you to bypass all of the families who are returning from their theme-park trips.

I just renewed my membership. There are several other cities that are online or coming online w/ clear.

This service uses a digital finger/thumb print.
