Southwest Inspects Planes, Makes Repairs

During its inspections of older Boeing 737s, Southwest Airlines reportedly discovered five aircraft with fuselage cracks requiring repairs.  The airline had grounded 79 planes and cancelled hundreds of flights as it completed safety inspections following a tear in the cabin of one of its planes that forced an emergency landing April 1.

According to Reuters, authorities are expected to require safety checks on any Boeing 737 with more than 30,000 cycles.  The plane involved in the April 1 incident had carried out 39,000 cycles.

By April 5, Southwest had made any needed repairs and flights had returned to a normal schedule.
