'Twas the Flight Before Christmas...

Our pal Kathy Ameche and her team at WomanRoadWarrior.com are waxing poetic about the trials, tribulations and seasonal surprises of holiday travel. Thanks to a little poetic license, they bring a whole new travel twist to the original version of A Visit from St. Nicholas

Twas the flight before Christmas and all through the hub
Woman Road Warriors with laptops had gone to the club
The shoes and the purses were stacked in the bins
Experienced flyers stripped down to their skins

The passengers were crowded all snug in their seats
With visions of coffee maybe Starbucks or Peet's
And my seatmate with ear buds and I in my wrap
Had just settled our brains for an all-flight long nap

Cheers, and safe travels!

Heathrow: Big Art Encourages a Big Kiss

Some art can really speak to you, if not stir the viewer to action. For this next art piece, I'd say control that urge. Should you find yourself in London's Heathrow Terminal 5, standing under the worlds largest mistletoe artform, remember...kissing should be agreed upon by both parties. Just as a public service announcement, this is not an opportunity to pucker up with any passerby, but than again it may be a way to make new friends during the holiday season.

Air New Zealand Shares the Bare Essentials of Safety

New Zealand Air has found a way to secure your attention during the safety demo: show a safety video with crew members dispatched in their birthday suits. Well actually, they are wearing a little something: earrings and body paint. Camera angles err on the side of modesty, but the video is gripping nonetheless. I actually now know where all of the life jackets are in the unlikely event of a water landing.

Here's the clip as seen on YouTube.

CEO's Guide to Jetting: JetBlue Pokes Some Fun

Who knew an economic downturn could be so funny? JetBlue apparently, as the airline has deployed some laugh-out-loud online videos targeting the bigwig players in of our real-life monopoly game. It's titled the CEO's Guide to Jetting.

As a minion and someone who carries his own luggage, books his own flights, thinks a Gulfstream is an Atlantic current, enjoys his grapes with the peel intact and has munched away at many a value meal, I found the videos clever and effective in poking a little fun while showcasing the airline's offerings. Videos include: Welcome Aboard, The Airport, and The Flight.

Nice job JetBlue and if there are any CEOs reading, take a gander and see what you've been missing: http://www.welcomebigwigs.com/.

A Very Well-Paid Day at the Beach

best job in the world island caretaker

Home sweet home? Do we have a job for you!

Admit it; you've daybreamed about telling the boss where to file that got-to-have-it-now report,  grabbing a few incidentals, and hopping the next flight to a deserted tropical island where a stocked fridge and sugar-white beach await you. Oh yes, and money is no object. (My daydreams do go on.)

Well my friends, this is no daydream. Queensland Tourism has a job of you as island caretaker for the Great Barrier reef--a position they call 'The  Best Job in the World.' And as I sit, writing this in a viewless cubicle, I'd have to agree. The successful candidate will be paid a salary package of AUD $150,000 for the six-month contract and be based on Hamilton Island.

It's not all Fosters and dreamy sunsets, you'll be expected to snorkel, feed the fish and collect mail. And since I'm all about enabling daydreamers, I leave you with the application for the 'Best Job in the World (PDF).'

G'day and good luck mates!

Pam Ann: Not Quite up to British Airways Standards

Pam Ann and BA crew members
Pam Ann, front and center and soon to be exit stage left.

One reader sent me a link of a recent British Airways ad campaign, featuring the exploits of Pam Ann, a new cabin crew member who doesn't quite make the cut. The clip concludes with "There's a reason our cabin crew go through over 1200 hours of training. "

View Pam Ann's first and last flight as a BA crew member.

No doubt, Pam Ann will be snatched up by another carrier.

Is this the Future of Air Travel?

Late night favorite MADtv, took on the airline industry and the latest rounds of add-on charges in a skit featuring fees for in-flight safety items. How much would you pay for oxygen and a seatbelt? Hopefully, this won't give the airlines any new ideas for revenue generation.
